Hace varios años me contrataron para escribir una película de ciencia ficción “dura”, es decir, no una de un ovni aterrizando en Comodoro Rivadavia, sino una en la que todo el fondo del tejido narrativo es completamente ficticio: Otro planeta, otros seres, otra física…
Después, claro, el “drama” como lo llamaría mi hija mayor, es totalmente local. No hay muchas alternativas en ese sentido. Parejas tienen motivos para separarse, padres aman a hijos… al final de día, la humanidad no tiene tantos colores de lápiz para pintar.
La película no prosperó, pero resucitó años más tarde en forma de serie de televisión, que se estrenará mañana. Se llama The Eternal White y fue dirigida por Christoph Behl (que si lo conozco un poco, debe tener Google Alerts seteadas a su nombre. ¡Hola Christoph!).
Fue muy divertido como fan de la ciencia escribir algo en lo que podia hablar de constelaciones y sistemas planetarios. No es algo muy habitual para el guionista argentino, a no ser que se dedique a las historietas.
Sin embargo lo que más disfruté fue inventar los nombres. Los nombres de personajes me parecen super importantes. Esto es algo totalmente personal, pero una historia donde los protagonistas se llaman Marcelo, Sofi y Ana para mi empieza con +5 en aburrimiento. En The Eternal White, libre de todo corsé, puede crear mis Carontes, Morrisons y Elas sin sentirme taaan snob.

The film never moved forward, but it was resurrected years later in the form of a TV series, which premieres tomorrow. It’s called The Eternal White and was directed by Christoph Behl (who, if I know him at all, probably has Google Alerts set to his name. Hi Christoph!).
As a science fan, it was great fun to write something where I could talk about constellations and planetary systems. That’s not very common for an Argentine screenwriter, unless you work in comics.
However, what I enjoyed the most was inventing names. Character names feel extremely important to me. This is entirely personal, but a story where the protagonists are named Marcelo, Sofi, and Ana starts off at +5 in boredom for me. In The Eternal White, free from all constraints, I could create my Carontes, Morrisons, and Elas without feeling too snobbish.
